Started the day with the arrival of our baby terrapin turtle. We finished the day making talking sticks and learning how they are used in many Native People's cultures to ensure the speaker is listened to with respect.
As we begin our unit on the Wampanoag, we are learning about how to live with nature, how to respect and care for our Earth. One day each child found a tree that would be his/her special spot. In silence, they sat with their tree, listening and watching. They drew and wrote what they were seeing and feeling in their sketch pads.
Today we went on an amazing field trip to the Ward’s oyster farm at Dennis on Crow’s Pasture beach. What a wonderful way to honor Climate Awareness Day. We learned that not only do oysters help to clean the waters of Cape Cod Bay, but the farms create jobs, and the oysters provide delicious food for many. The children had opportunities to help on the farm, sorting oysters at their different stages. It was a beautiful day to be learning on the flats!

I am so excited for this new year! In my class of 2nd and 3rd graders I will have old and new friends. Most of the class had me last year.It is such a gift for me, the teacher, and for our new friends, to have a group of kind, fun-loving, and inquisitive children to get started on a new school year. I'm looking forward to great adventures inside and outside of the classroom.
