On Tuesday we got to see Marcie's amazing exhibit "How I Seethe World". We also were given a tour and got to see a picture go from camera to print. What a great trip. The students have taken pictures which we will be printing showing the world from their point of view and then writing a poem to accompany it.

The 3rd grade takes regular field trips to take advantage of the many gifts Cape Cod has to offer. Many of our trips are connected to the curriculum, giving the students the opportunity for hands-on exploration of what they have been learning about. Our recent visit to the Wampanoag Museum was a beautiful opportunity to learn from Wampanoag teachers about their culture and history. In addition to curricular support, field trips also provide the children the opportunity to explore and discover. Some of our field trips are for exploration. Students have the opportunity to visit an area and discover for themselves what it has to offer. At a recent hike at Fort Hill in Eastham, the children did see the sharpening rock that was used by the Wampanoags many years ago. But the real purpose of the trip was the adventure of the hike, wondering what we would see and discover, giving the children an opportunity to teach and lead each other, and to enjoy a beautiful spot! One surprise discovery on the hike was when one of the children charged up to a tree that had been tipped over by a storm and pointed out the root system and they all excitedly studied it! We had been studying plant life and they discovered applied their knowledge to their discovery! Our scheduled time for field trips was Friday afternoons from 1:00-3:00. But due to our Charter Buddies coming on Fridays, that has been suspended. We have been going on field trips on other days, based on scheduling: Plimouth Plantation, the Chatham Upweller Shellfishery, and the Wampanoag Museum. When we go on our field trips, we have a parent volunteer accompany us so we have 2 adults to supervise the children. Our Cape Cod Classroom experience has been wonderful! |
